The next in the series of free webinars organized and presented by the Colour Society of Australia will be given by pioneer Australian fashion designer and artist Linda Jackson AO. We are very grateful to CSA NSW committee member Kerry O'Donnell for organizing this event.

Please help us to spread word of this exciting event by sharing our authorized social media posts from the Colour Society of Australia's Facebook and Instagram accounts, or by passing on the following event link to your friends, colleagues and students: https://coloursociety.org.au/event-4915333

Linda Jackson AO was born in Melbourne in 1950 and studied fashion design at Emily McPherson College and photography at Prahran Tech before taking off overseas in the late 1960s to live in New Guinea and travel through Asia to Paris and London. Returning to Sydney in 1973 Linda met kindred spirit Jenny Kee and together colourful creativity was their flamboyant force, along with staging Flamingo Park fashion parades that became famous for their energetic amalgamation of art, fashion and music.

Travels to Central Australia and Lightning Ridge in 1980 re-inspired her long-term passion for colour and opal.  “I had to travel out to the Opal Fields from Lightning Ridge to Boulder Opal Country to immerse myself in the landscape and learn more about how the magic colours of Opal are formed. I already had the fascination with colour healing, art therapy, auras and the way colours inspire, so to experiment with hand painting and printing textiles was an obvious way to translate my ideas’.

Since closing her Sydney studio in 1992 and relocating to NT, then Far North Queensland and now residing in NSW Linda has been involved in many solo and group exhibitions and workshops across the Country. Her first children’s book “Rainbow Menagerie’ was released in November 2018. Linda's upcoming exhibition "Romance of the Swag" opens at the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery on the 13th of August and goes until the 30th of October.

Linda has received many accolades for her work, which has been acquired by the Australian National Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria, Powerhouse Museum, RMIT, Art Gallery of NT, Art Gallery of SA and the Queen Victoria Museum Tasmania. Awards include Life Fellow PHM, Australia Council Fellowship, Design Institute Hall of Fame and Prix de Marie Claire. Linda was awarded AO Officer in the order of Australia in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours List. The Linda Jackson and Jenny Kee “Step into Paradise” exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney 2019 was an extraordinary colourful survey of their fashion and art and was followed by the 2020 documentary Step into Paradise” which can be seen on ABC iView.
