The “Los Ríos” Region in southern Chile has an exceptional landscape from the Pacific Ocean to the Andes Mountains, boasting 140 rivers, 11 lakes, different types of vegetation, soils and skies that change color with the seasons, the weather, and of course, the time of day. An interdisciplinary team of designers and scientists has been created with the aim of investigating the color of the region and developing a color chart with a regional identity. We have made trips throughout the region for a year to collect and measure colors using a colorimeter as well as visual comparison employing the NCS and the Munsell color chart. From the more than 200 colors obtained, we have created 40 color palettes based on harmonies and contrasts. This color chart was a first exploratory step in the development of a methodology capable of collecting the colors of a territory in an interdisciplinary way. This color chart has been used by pre-graduate design students in academic exercises, by designers in a variety of products, and by the company responsible for the construction of the biggest Domo (a tent-like structure) in the Americas.
